Some dishes feel like home the moment you smell them, and for me, Túrós Csusza is one of those. This dish doesn’t aim to be fancy or extravagant; instead, it embraces simplicity and nostalgia.
This dish is honest, creamy, salty, soft, and comforting in the most Hungarian way possible, evoking warm memories of family gatherings and cozy winters.
The delightful aroma wafting through the air is enough to make anyone feel welcomed and cherished. This is the version I grew up with — made with simple ingredients like egg noodles, cottage cheese, and a hint of sour cream, quick to make, and always satisfying, it perfectly encapsulates the essence of home-cooked meals.
Sharing a plate of Túrós Csusza brings an unparalleled sense of togetherness and warmth, reminding me of lazy Sundays spent in the kitchen with loved ones, each bite transporting me back to those treasured moments.
In Hungary, túrós csusza is often enjoyed after a rich, hearty soup like gulyásleves (goulash soup) — the kind of comforting, slow‑cooked first course that warms the whole table. The creamy noodles arrive as a simple but deeply satisfying second dish, creating that familiar Hungarian balance of laktató and otthonos — filling, yet beautifully home‑like.

Ingredients
Method
- Cook the pasta. Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Add the pasta and cook until tender, about 8-10 minutes, but check the cooking time on the pasta packaging. Drain well.In a frying pan over medium heat, fry the diced bacon until crispy. My frying pan is quite large, and when the bacon is done browning, I leave it in the pan in its own fat.Prepare the cottage cheese. It is worth draining it in a fine-mesh strainer so that it is not too acidic.Add the drained pasta to the fried bacon in the frying pan with a loose motion, add the cottage cheese, and mix everything.Serve with sour cream.
